The Basic Principles in Weight Training Exercises

If you are in weight training exercises, the first thing that you should know is the basic principles that should be incorporated or observed in these exercises.  One of the most basic principles in weight training is the FITT Principle.  The FITT stands for frequency, intensity, time and type.  Here is a discussion of each of these exercise principles.

·          Frequency – The frequency refers to how often you should perform your exercises.  As a basic principle in weight training, it requires you to know your 1 rep max and know your limitations as to how many repetitions and sets you can perform for a particular exercise routine.  You need to test how many sets are required of you in a particular routine and how many repetitions you can do.  It is important to know this since the effectiveness of the workout exercises may depend on the frequency of your exercise.  As mentioned also by many fitness experts, while you need to keep a particular frequency and even constantly increase the frequency of a particular exercises every now and then to keep your progression, it is also as important to take a rest, which is also a basic principle in weight training exercises.

·          Intensity – the intensity refers to how hard you perform your training routines. In intensity, what you want to do is to constantly challenge your body but then you do not also want to strain your body parts.  Your exercises should be able to shape, trim and strengthen your body and not just add up strain on any of your body parts.  You have to realize that there are a number of people who cannot even perform the proper exercises and end up suffering from injury.  This is because they follow the wrong exercise program which their body cannot adjust.  Every individual has his or her own capacity of load that he or she can handle.  As such, it is important to know your maximum load and from there constantly do activities that stimulate your body.  Like from the ordinary barbell you can join it with walking or jogging while doing barbells.

·          Time – The time refers to how long you perform your weight training. You also have to allot a specific part of your day for your workout exercises.  If you are serious with your weight training and you want to achieve good result, you need to set aside a time for your training.  It is not a good attitude to train only when it is convenient.  It will not give you any result at all.  You should have an attitude that training is as important as eating or sleeping.  You need to follow the sets and reps that you have in your weight training program in order to achieve the target result.

·          Type – The type refers to the kinds of weight training activities that you can do.  There has to be variations in the kind of exercises that you do that is geared to build and strengthen almost every muscle group of your body from head to foot.  This can be done through a weight training program that specifically incorporates exercises for every muscle target.  There has to be variation and at the same time progression in the routines that you do to keep your muscles constantly challenged.

Lastly, you have to incorporate in the FITT principle rest after every two days of hard workout and make sure you have the appropriate nutrition for your body to perform the tough weight training exercises.
